EDC.EXE running code
This software is an utility as DOSEDIT, with more implemented
features :
Extended single line editor with scroll mode at the bottom of
the screen (command line). In this line the current status of
the toggle keys as Ins, Caps, Num and Scroll are found.
At the top, two other status lines remember the last command,
the date and time, and the current path name, actually in use
and an help indicator (displayed if any, cleared otherwise),
an alarm flag indicates if alarm is set (displayed) or not
(cleared), all this displayed with different and appropriate
colors.
Help if any (F1),
ASCII characters set (F2),
Calendar (F3),
Desk Calculator (F4),
Alarm : programming (F5), looking at (F6),
Semi-graphics characters set (F7),
Full screen clock (F8),
All screens are simultaneously available, except functions cal-
led with F1, F5, F6 and F8 which do not allow the call of ano-
ther over-displayed window ; user must quit one of these fun-
ctions by typing the [Esc] key.
Dos calls are not available through the desk functions (F1 thru
F8). They are only available from the command line.
RUNNING : It is so easy as typing : DCE.
First type the [F1] key to obtain the online main help window which
describes the main functions and editor commands ; at this time the
"[F1] Help" characters string on the first status line besides the
system date disappear, it would be the same at every F1 keyhit for
Calendar and Calculator (specific help) and for the F2, F5, F6, F7
and F8 functions that do not need any help screen due to their
easyest using mode.
If you want to skip the two first abstracts screens, you can type
DCE x, where x would be any ASCII character(s). Abstracts are not
displayed at this time.
MORE . . . : DCE software saves the partial screens to disk (this to recover
prior part of screen overwritten by the next). So use of an hard
disk drive is recommended to do this as fast as possible and for
other reasons as use of transient part of COMMAND.COM needed by
DCE to run other softwares.
DCE needs DOS version greater or equal to 2.11, memory size at
least equal to 256 Ko, diskette drive and hard disk or two disk
drives.
